My Convict has recently had babies! What do I do? I have absolutely no experience with this at all. She is in a 20 Gal. tank with her mate and a Giant Danio. They are all so tiny that I am afraid to injure them in any way. My main question is how do I care for a tank with other fish with little fry and make sure that they will live?

ah get a breeder net or get them and put them an another tank dont use a power filter it couldsuck them up so maybe a spondge filter or a undergravel filter and get this stuff first bites from hiarkari i think

The Giant Danio seems alright. He stays to his own side of the tank and mom and dad don't bug him. As for getting snother tank for the fry and such.. I just don't have the money at the moment. We just got a new 20 Gal. for the 10 Gal. tank that the fish outgrew and spent all the extra money on setting it up.

use the ten gallon sponge filters ar cheap like 6 bucks food 4 bucks

use the ten gallon
It's not empty yet. We just set up the new tank on the weekend, so about 2 days ago. We wanted to let it go threw its paces and make sure it would be set up alright. We were thinking of transferring the fish this coming weekend. Also, the only filters we have are power filters. Will look into sponge filters then. I have never really heard of them.

im rpetty sure convicts take care of their fry, if so no need for a breeder net (which i believe does more harm than good) and no need for a separate tank.

A breeding pair of cons really need their own tank. They are semi-aggressive when not breeding, but can get very aggressive for no apparent reason when breeding. This means your tank may be fine at 8 am, by noon you may have a pair of cons, fry, and plenty of fish parts. If the pair senses the fry are in danger they will go off. If you have power filters they can be used with fry, if you put a piece of sponge over the intake. Fry don't create that much waste, you can take a small portion of mature media from the filter you have running, and add it to another power filter on the fry tank. I thought I could keep a bristlenose in with a breeding pair of cons some time ago, I provided the plec with a small enough piece of pvc pipe to hide in that the breeding pair couldn't get into. I figured a small armored catfish for cleanup, with a suitable hiding place, should do fine. I figured wrong, in less than a week they chased the plec out of the tank.

They do, until they spawn again, and the new batch of fry are swimming. The older batch will start to disappear after that.
