Fry in a 1 Gal WalMart Tank

I recently bought a 1 gallon WalMart tank to use for my molly fry.

First of all, I put brand new gravel in the tank, and filled the tank with water from my main tank (where the fry were born) My questions are,

1. Is this tank considered cycled? or am I harming them by not using rocks from the main tank, also-
2. Are the Undergravel Filters in those tanks very effective?

Undergravel filters aren't any good at all.

I'm still new, so I don't know for sure...but I think I read on here that just using the water doesn't make the new tank cycled. I think that you need at least some gravel from the established tank, to speed up the cycling of the new one.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

i think your right its the gravel and the the filter and any thing else in the tank that gets ammonia eating bacteira
