I recently purchased 2 fry nets for my 2 pregnant platies that were due to give birth at the same time. When they had fry I was pretty disappointed in the fry nets as the majority of the fry were able to squeeze out of the nets - certainly not fit for the purpose! I have had a lot of fun and games catching surviving fry before they were to be eaten by the other fish.

I would like to still use fry nets in future, but wonder could you suggest an alternative finer mesh or other material that I may fit around each of the two frames? Thank you.

ermmm could you not use like a foot of a pair of ladies tights i think that might work see what other people say first though lmao

Any old tupperware dish/ takeaway container use a pin and make lots of tiny holes all around it and clamp to the side of the tank its what I do when I want to isolate fish.

I am fortunate in that I have a separate 60 litre tank for the fry. It is just trying to stop fry from escaping through the mesh is my main concern.

I have 2 standard mesh breeding traps where the mother is contained in the top compartment and the fry below - in this case most of the fry are escaping via the mesh whether they are in the higher or lower compartment.

Bump.

I use breeding boxes/traps. The hagen ones are really good.

no they arent. i bought the most expensive one. and i was gutted to see my fry just swim out of it without any trouble. all of them are rubbish.
the human mind is the best answer.

i bought some silicon and filled the gaps that the stupid designers who made them, forgot to fill.

i mean come on. its supposed to keep it in. atleast make it intact.

I use the 2 in 1 floating fish hatchery as the gaps are very fine in this model. What one are you using then? The most expensive one is best for egg hatching. How can you say they are all rubbish when you have only used one?!
