Well, my poor guppy died. She had a buldge hanging out of her anal so I got bold and decided to see what was stressing her out. It looked as though she was trying to push all the eggs out at once and they weren't quite ready. There were some that were alive so I have them in the fry tank now. There are about 6-8 of them. My other fry, that are between 1 wk and 1 mth old are attacking them and trying to eat them! I've never seen that before! They most definitely are well fed, if not a bit over fed even. Why the heck are they trying to eat the new fry?! I just got done saving them! Now I have to save them again! lol Nature sure has a way of getting her way. *sigh*

oh well. A bit unusual for guppies but very common for plent of other fish. One of my groups of Golden wonder killifish (Aplocheilus Lineatus ) bred in their breeding tank and when they were finished I moved the mops to a grow out tank. for about 2 weeks I had around 50 fry survive then about 4-5 started to grow more quickly. They were probably 20% bigger then the other and they started making a meal of them. Eventually I was left with one that had made a meal of the other and was almost adult size in about a month. Since then I started moving the one that grow quickly to another tank.

There is a saying in fish keeping, if it fits in thier mouth, (or almost does) they will eat it or at least try..

Sorry about your guppy dying :(

My guppy and swordtail fry will attack anything that could be food, even if it won't fit in their mouth. I once tried to see what they would do to some frozen brine shrimp. They started tearing it apart viciously.

My 1st generation swordtail fry would've eaten all my 2nd generation if I hadn't stopped them. Put your 1st generation in another tank.

One of my other fish had a budgle hanging from her anal as well dont know what it was from and she lived for two days. Now i have a much younger female that it has happened to and she actually has survived over a month now. She somehow is able to go to the bothroom but i do think she is pregnant and i think she wont be around much longer cause there is no way she could possibly deliver them with her condition. Good that you got a few of the babies from her.
