Throughout all of the cold weather my outdoor pond has had ice on it for a while. However, the filter(which is on all the time) has kept the water moving and left at least half of it unfrozen to allow oxygenation etc. The pond is a plastic liner which I have had for a couple of years. I haven't fed my fish since late November. The temperatures really have plummeted recently and I've noticed that the ice must be at least half a foot thick, unlike just 2 inches last week, and is now about 85% covered in ice. What's worrying me however, is the water level has gone down about 10-15cm. I did realise that the pump nozzle wasn't fitted right and some of the water was squirting off outside of the pond but I fixed it and it has gone down slightly further. If you can see what I mean the filter is out of the water and it has a nozzle which flows out into the pond attached to a pump...
I'm just worried whether there is a leakage or whether it is just the water turning to ice.
Cheers!

you would do best to switch the pond off until the cold snap goes..you may have a leak either in the plastic or hose or box. top up with a hose and see if you lose any more. the fish will do fine with no filter for a while...just try and keep a small area clear of ice
