from one tank to another...

well its a long story but...

i have my poor little white cloud in my little sister's ugly big green goldfish tank and i just got my lil 1+ gal tank in my room set up for it. It has been in there for about year and i hav no idea how it survived those nasty monsters, but yeah here's my question:

The pH in the ugly tank is totally different from the one i set up, ugly=acidic (yellow on the test EWW) and the one i set up is neutral, so wat can i do to make it so that transfering the fish to my new one won't put it into shock? Should i change the water (our faucet water is neautral-slightly alkaline) in that dirty tank, let it stay there a few more days to get it used to that water then tranfer it, or could i transfer it right now?

Sorry for the long question, I'm sure the answer is obvious, but i still would like some help.

IMO, you could take some old tank water fromt the ugly tank (when doing a water chnage) and place it in your new tank, waite 2-3 days do another water change (ugly tank) and place spent water in the new tank and by now if you had done approx 20 % each time, your water in the new one would be similar to the ugly tank after 2-3 days move you fish. Hope this helps.

My suggestion is to get a bigger tank. I believe minnows are like danios in that they suffer from hypoxia in small spaces. I'm not sure, but you might be ok with just that one fish...

Ok, if the small tank isn't cycled, use your old tankwater to do so. (Even if it is, replace a large part of the water in the 1 gallon with water from the old tank). While you're waiting for the tank to cycle (read up on that) do at least 2 25% water changes over the course of a few days. The pH should then be relatively level (you should check pH again).

Hi! Thanks for all the great suggestions. Well the thing i did which i hope was right was when i filled the new tank with water i used about half treated tap and then the other half i took some water from the ugly tank and then i'll wait a few days till i tranfers the fish.
And well would get a larger tank but this is for my desk and that's all the tank it would permit, and i don't really want a betta, they're pretty and all but yeah...
Does anyone have some suggestions for fish or fishes that are okay with small tanks and no heater (my house is around 72 degrees year round, coldest would be about 66, but that would be a gradual drop). Thanks again.
