Hi salt heads
Once again thank you for all your advice with the crack, OK didn't go to plan  but we give it a shot!

After the tank crack post I mentioned that I have purchased a 36 x 24 x 24 from seabray with sump, :hyper: this should be with me in the next 10 days or so, (I will post process picks as I go along) I have a few ideas on plumbing but would really like some advice!
I currently have the following gear

Eheim wet & dry canister filter
Hydor Koralia 3 x 3 (with wave maker)
Lighting T5 x2 @ 55 watts each
Marine Blue x 130inch
36 inch Blue neon’s
Marine white x 130 inch
Vectron UV (30w) (powered by a maxi jet power head)
Ocean hang on skimmer (powered by a maxi jet power head)
Live stock

Yellow tang
Cardinal
Dottyback
Clowns x 3
Domino Damsels x2
Clean up crew hermits x 8
Cleaner shrimps x 2
Live rock 25+ kilos
Bubble coral
Carpet Anemone
Leathers
Some others needing ID’s

OK, so after the tank crack  we had to rush everything into a 36 x 18 x 18! Everyone is eating and doing fine, run some tests on Sunday and we are OK! The system before I had it has been running for nearly eight years but some loss in interest from the previous owner resulted in some losses in fish and inverts!
So I’ve took this onboard! As before I have a 55 gallon tropical but now moving into Marine’s, the main reason for the move over is being a Padi Diver :good: (I love fish)! :hyper: Anyway back the tank!

Once the new tank arrives I was thinking of the following.
Set up plumbing please see my crappy diagram!

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c195/headzache/sump.jpg

32 mm piping with 40mm ball valves keeping the inner core at 32mm, sump to be powered by a Eheim Universal 1260-head delivery 3.7meters-output 2400 per hour? Am I even close?
I also have 20kg of new coral sand and 5kg live sand for sump! Once the plumbing is done and tested and system has run for 48 hours (leaks and stuff) I was thinking of moving the live rock over and putting in place, then my fishy friends, then temporally run the Eheim wet and dry to help along with filtration? Good idea or not? All the lights and stuff I will set up before the move!
Water is being filtered using a RO Man 75 gallon a day! TDS reading before is 346, water out is 0! :good: Ocean salt added and pumped for 24 hours using aerator heater and powerhead!
How an I doing?
Oh feeding, Marine frozen mix twice a day! Nori sheets for Tang 3”x3”, small whole frozen fish once a week for anemone!
That's about it I think, I feel way out of my depth with this! SUMPS  why didn't I stay with the wet and dry filter!
Feel free to bully me, tell me what I'm doing wrong, bash me around, whatever it takes to get this up and running!

I don't know about SW, but it sounds impressive and thought out. I just wanted to say, that on you're post about the tank crack.. well after I posted saying that my repair had gone perfect, the worst thing happened. I went to collect my other 2 18" breeding tanks, put them in my mates car. Covered them up to ensure they didn't get damaged and..... he took a corner far to hard. Result = 2 tanks now in need for repair. I've got to replace one whoel side of glass on each tank

Talk about sods law!

Good luck with your SW tank and keep us updated. I may not know about SW, but I'm still interested in seeing the set ups and sump designs :good:

cheers for comment! sorry to hear about the smash! he owes you a drink I think! I have got away with murder over the last few weeks, my wife must wonna kill me!

first tank was £350
new tank stand and sump £570
then I bought the RO £80
Then hydors £110
wave maker £60
Salt £59

New lights £130!

I'm going to be in the dog house soon!

As my brain is starting to explode with sump plumbing, the only thing I haven't put any thought into the design is gurgling from the weir? I have been reading up on the "Durso Standpipe design" these look ok to make but do they really work? any other ideas on overflow weir designs!
Am I just stressing for nothing with sumps?

cheers

sumps are worth the stress and standpipes do work however theyre an application that require the bottom of your tank being drilled...not sure if your tank has already had this done, if so then a durso would suit you perfectly.

Durso's do really work and I'd reccomend them if you drill the bottom of the tank. My sump thoughts for you are twofold. First, if posible, two drains allow for extra safety. You can have 2 dursos inside the same weir and will protect against snails crawling in a hole. Second thought, make the chamber with the return pump bigger and consider a bubble wall there too. The last thing you want is for evaporation rate (which only shows up in the final chamber) to be so fast that you have to topup al the time. A lager final chamber is a blessing in this regard

thanks guys, yes the tank is drilled at the bottom, I'm getting a standard sump which I might have to add some extra baffles, thanks for comments, I'm going to get ordering my plumbing parts asap, as soon as the tank arrives I'll get working!

Um top up system, I will need one, yet more cash to spend, and good DIY ideas out there?

some of you guys are like Jedi salt heads :hyper:

Yeah not bad, done stuff like surround sound and mic leads and stuff like that! I'm getting excited  what do you have in mind???????

Read the thread I linked up there. Great DIY topoff designed by an EE on these boards :)

Skifletch,

sorry for I is stupid! that link looks real heavy! a friend of mine is a real geek with stuff like this, I'll send him the link to have a look at!

Still waiting for the new tank!
