hey.
i got a white gravel substrate in my tank, but since purchasing some corys i would like to change to sand.
i was just wondering what is the best way of doing this? id like to tray and keep the sand controlled, if any one has ideas i would much appreciate them, cheers :good:

I'll be watching this thread intently, as I need to swap my 6ft tank from gravel to sand, and am dreading it. I think I'm going to have to wait til I've got a spare tank to put my other fish in lol - it could be a bit stressful for them.

Sorry for not adding any advice....

Me too. I have a 42 gallon I need to change from gravel to sand and have been tyrying to work out what is the best way to do it to cause the least stress to my fish for weeks. Sorry for not helping at all too

I guess I would put the fish in bags containing aquarium water and then take everything else out of the tank ( scenary, plants, etc... )

I would then put the remaining 3/4 of aquarium water into water-tight storage containers ( or lots of buckets ) and then take the gravel out, give the tank a bit of a clean while your out it and then in goes the sand, scenery, plants, water and fish!

If anyone knows an easier way then please tell me!

Cheers...

corin i didnt think of taking water out aswell... hmm... how much u reckon buckets r at B&Q ?hehe

i think ima do that, cheers ^_^

My tank is only 60l but I lowered the water level then used a small clean dust pan to scoop the gravel out with and then used the same dust pan to slowly lower the sand into the water, and slid the sand off (I'd rinsed it very very thourghly prior to doing this)...
