From 1 To 3

Thanks, dieses Madchen. They look grumpy, I like that :)

Does that make sense? Grumpy as there are some fish which seem to be smiling all the time and others are grumpy.

I'm off to my LFS tomorrow to have a look at their black very fine gravel. I called yesterday and they said they have some, so might take some with me.I am also thinking now of not adding any wood to tank 3, but instead go for slate / rocks. Would that be ok for the fish I am planning on putting in?

Now, please don't laugh (or laugh with me), but I have already chosen names for my new fish that I don't even have yet.

The Betta will be called Barry. Even my son thinks it's funny.

The Bolivian Rams shall be named Bernard and Rose.

The Pearl Gouramis will be Graeme and Pearl.

See what I did there with the two couples?

(I know I am mad!!!) :hyper:

A quick note Salam. Endlers and guppies are not schooling/shoaling fish. They will be quite happy in small numbers. On the other hand, most tetras really do better in groups of at least 6. That difference can definitely affect your stocking of the 24 gallon tank. If you really want a great schooling/shoaling fish, consider using that tank 3 for a nice group of cories of a single species. Any single cory species gives a great display when kept in adequate numbers. You have probably been finding that your single cory is little more than a live tank vacuum cleaner, but if kept in larger numbers, cories are among my favorite very playful fish. Until you have given this a try, you will not know just how playful a group of cories can be.

Yes, I know they are not schooling fish. My guppies are happy as a pair in tank 2. They are even in love with each other

The plan was / is to add one schooling fish to tank 3 with the two rams and the two gouramis, hence I was asking for suggestions. I will get about 10 of one species, I think that would make them happy. Probably tetras, really just for movement and livening up the tank..

Tank 1 (the betta tank) will have 6-8 pygmy cories in it, does that sound ok? I was told they'd be happy together, so I'd have one species of cories in one tank.

Off to the LFS in a bit. I am going to get more friends for my only albino cory (Albert!). You are right, he is more of a vacuum cleaner at the moment. I really didn't know they like being in groups (LFS never told me and I only found out here), hence I am going to pick him up some friends and they will live in tank 2. I bet he will be over the moon, from the stories I have heard here they are probably going to liven up the tank.

Just a quick update. (This is turning into a journal, isn't it?)

I went to my LFS and got three more albino cories. They now live in tank 2 with my old cory. At the moment they don't seem to be too bothered about each other, but I hope that will change. They were excited though, digging in the sand and swimming up and down the glass as they should do.

I also fell in love with a betta and I have reserved him. Next weekend we are moving some of the platy fry over to tank 2 (they are four weeks then, so old enough) and the rest will be given away. Then over Easter we set up tank 1 for the betta and we will pick him up on Monday. So excited, he was beautiful and flashed his fins to us. Can't wait to bring him home, it's almost like having a new baby :hyper:
Unfortunately my LFS doesn't have pygmy cories, so back to the drawing board. Want to find good suitable tankmates for Barry the betta.

Tank 3 should also be ready faster than expected. Last night I won a used filter on ebay and it will be sent out to me via next day delivery. It will have been out of the water for less than 24 hours. I will run it alongside the filter in tank 2 to keep the bacteria alive. Am I right in thinking that this will almost eliminate the cycling process or at least speed it up? Can someone with more experience please help?

I can't wait to show off some pictures once it is all done

if the bacteria remain damp, yes, if they dry out, you start from the beginning.

No, not mad lol. My JD's are "Jack and Diane" and my GTs are "Desmond and Molly"

Brownie points if you guess where I got the names lol

Thanks, Tizer :good: I had a message from the seller just a few minutes ago telling me he has just dispatched it and it should be with me in the morning. He said he made sure that it's still wet so I will know more tomorrow. It would be awesome if all the bacteria was still in.
