I have an abundent supply of frogspawn and tadpoles in my pond and i was wondering could i possibly use it as a live food?

It's possible but why bother? It's cruel and they will be full of contaminants and pathogens from the pond..

Nature always creates an excess as most will perish before reaching frog stage so you might not have an abundance at all!

you could fife but it depends wether you would want to risk introducing any diseases from your pond into the aquarium (not saying pond is dirty)

If you really want to you could rinse the frogspawn in a net and jug with hot water so anything that drops through you can still seive and save and feed but you should still get some goodness from the eggs cos the fish will enjoy them wether they are dead or alive

i wouldn't risk using live tadpoles though

I wouldn't use live tadpoles either for the above reasons. The problem with using eggs is that they are covered in a jelly, this is intended to stop fish from eating them so unless you can remove it they won't be able to eat them. I have had to decapsulate frog spawn a number of times (mostly for identification or microscope studies) and it's very, very hard and usually involves preserving them first in either alcohol or formaldehyde.
I'm not just talking about the mass of foam or jelly the eggs are laid in, but each individual egg is encased in a triple layer of jelly as well, and it's about four times the diameter of the actual ovum (the black dot which the fish might get some nutritional value out of). This is the egg capsule and what comes out after it's been decapsulated is probably not the best thing to feed to a fish.

Why is it cruel? No more cruel than people feeding other live foods to their fish, worms, brine shrimp, snails and whatever else.

Anyway.... As others have said, I'd be hesitant b/c of possibly introducing a disease to your fish.

well naturally fish eat tadpoles so i don't see how its anymore cruel

no but you cant rinse tadpoles hun and they could carry deseases that you wont want in your tank
thats my thoughts anyway not about cruelty

i have a pond full of tadpoles and the fish are not interested in eating them

It's illegal to even interfere with native amphibians, feeding them to fish would certainly be breaking the law.

as another person said it is illegal.. by law we arent ment to touch frog spawn or tadpoles...even if it means saving them
