I got an ADF a little over a week ago and he seemed to be eating and was really active, but about 2 days ago I looked at him and he seemed really fat. Today he is extremely bloated and listeless, I'm assuming this is dropsy. I heard there is no cure for this..but I could be wrong. Does anyone know if there is something I can do, I would really like to help this little guy :-(

oh thank god someone replied! I've been afraid he will die any day and I dont want that.. He is still active but his underside is so swollen that you can almost see right through it. I dont know if there are any meds or what to give him :(

Hi bittersweet :)

What are you feeding him?

If he is active it's possible he has eaten too much or that something you fed him expanded after it was in his stomach. Or, could he have swallowed fine gravel or the like?

When i first got 2 adf's one of them bloated up like yours but this one floated and died 24 hours later :-(
But being as though yours is not floating I agree that it may have just ate something or too much!!! My adf's will eat as much as you give them! I reckon even if i put like 100 bloodworm in they would still eat em all!!
Let us know what happens...fingers crossed for you... ;)

I really dont know whats wrong with him now..because he is still bloated yet swims around fine, and the thing is he doesnt eat much at all. I feed him wardleys shrimp pellets..I tried giving him blood worms but he doesnt eat them. He doesnt even eat everyday, usually once every two days I will see him chomping on some pellet. Maybe I just shouldnt worry about the bloating?

I dont know if anyone was really following this..but to update you he is no longer bloated..actually he is quite the opposite and seems very skinny. This is the strangest frog I have ever seen LOL..perhaps it was just the ate and now its passed..thank anyways for all your comments

Hi bittersweet :)

I'm so glad that your little frog is OK.

Does he live alone, or with other fish? Since they eat off the bottom, is it possible that he is finding and eating food that other fish drop? This would account for him getting a much bigger tummy than it would seem he should have. It could also be the reason that he's not hungry when you expect him to be.

HBH makes a food called Frog and Tadpole bites that is in the form of tiny little pellets. My ADFs like them. You might want to give them a try. :D
