I have started feeding bloodworm approx every 3 days, is there anything else i can give in between maybe something my fish wont eat? also will it eat any of the sinking food?

Thanks

Paul

It's ok for your fish to eat bloodworms too, you know. It's also very healthy for them and I'm sure they love it. If they are eating all the food before your frog gets it, then I would suggest going to your local grocery store or something similiar and buying a turkey baster. This way you can release the bloodworms directly in front of your frog before the fish get it. There are also sinking frog pellets you can get. I don't like them because they are very small and I found that they fall in between the cracks of the gravel.

Hi, can you give us some more info about your frog (is it the green spotted that you have in your signature?) Do you have it's latin name? Could you also tell us what sort of enviroment it is in? With the answer to these questions, I'm sure we can help you more. :)

Ok its green spotted, i'm guessing its an African Dwarf variety although i'm not sure, it certainly dont look like the clawed frog though and i dont know if u can get other varieties

Its currently living in the setup in my signature, i am not sure if its completely happy, it tends to hide away under the big rock most the time and the corries seem to pester it a little when its out in the open not nasty, more curious, i have been considering how to improve its living environment some how within the tank, maybe by getting a flat stone for it to stay under

My main concern is its eating though as i have not yet seen it take any food, and the rest of my fish are such greedy gits :)

So do frogs normally lead more active lives? i'm not concerned its its a non mover, but i do want to try and ensure its happy enough as i do with my fish

Thanks

Paul R

If the cories are pestering him a bit, you could put him in a seperate container (1-2 gallons is probably ok). Then you could make sure he's getting fed and not stressed out by the fish. How long have you had him?

Just a week now, i dont think he is stressed by the other fish as they really dont pay him much attention, like i say i think its just curiosity at the moment, they all seem to go through that stage when i introduce new fish, then they settle down, but the frog dont show itself much so i'm guessing they aint used to it yet

Another tank is out of the question i just dont have space, but i will do what i have to to keep my fish and frog happy in the tank i have got

What are frogs prefered habitat have you found?

Thanks

Paul R

I don't really know their "preferred habitat". I've stopped keeping them because I cannot get them to live longer than a month no matter how hard I try. The last one I had only lasted a week. He wouldn't eat but I also think he was sick with something called red leg or something- but I'm not sure that's what it's called I don't remember. The ones that I have kept, I found that they liked being in the darker spots of the tank like under some wood or resting on top of plants or behind the filter. I'm pretty sure they're nocturnal so that is probably why.

That would certainly explain a lot, he was out for ages last night and he looks healthy enough, he (i dunno if i should be presumptious on the sex) is generally in places i cant see when it comes to feeding though and its just frustrating not knowing if he's eaten, he generally stays under the overhangs of the rocks though

I expect your frogs would enjoy some small live crickets. They will obviously float, so unless your frog can see them at feeding time they may go unnoticed.

Hmm i'm guessing they will be too big the frog is only about 15mm body length, i put some brine shrimp in yesterday tho, no idea if he took some before the fish ate it but it certainly made him come out, unforunetly they had all gone int othe water by this time

The guy in the pet shop said his used to love discus food aswell

wow that sounds good, any idea where u get em from? doesnt sound like something my LFS would stock as they dont have that many frogs

BTW my frog ate tons today, i was keeping some live bloodworm for tommorrow but when i saw him out i thought it was too good an opertunity to miss, so using a turkey baster as recomended i drifted a few near him, he loved em!!!!

So now i'm content he's eating and he's had something, so thanks very much for all the advice :)

Just as an update, i've now found my frog has eaten the following

Bloodworm (Live and Frozen)
Pea's
Discus Food
Flake Food
Small snails crushed

So my worries about what to feed it are slowly vanishing :)

I've had ADF's for about 4 years now - unfortunately I had to part with them recently
I found that they will eat just about anything, frozen bloodworm, frozen brineshrimp, frozen rotifers, peas, zuchinni chunks, mosquito/mayfly larva (just about anything that comes out of my pond) and a variety of flake, shrimp discus and betta pellets... etc

I also discovered that neons, cardinal tetras as well as red cherry shrimp are unfortunately tasty if not fed enough
if I didn't have to downsize I would probably have kept the little buggers - despite the occasional diet deviance

Enjoy your little guy
its most entertaining to watch them "stand" on the bottom of the tank or on a leaf like little men.

before I get flamed - a 3 year old ADF is about 2 1/2 inches from head to tail, and about 1 inch across - big enough to snap up a small tetra (figured I better say this - as my LFS didn't belive me until a few days after he put mine in his cardinal tank)

Yeh they are great, surprising as i dont see it much, he kinda chilled out tho, he moves when he needs to, but the rest of the time he just lays in the shade chillin :) its funny to see him eat tho cause he lunges at food, surprised he dont get pissed with the fish tho when the nice bloodworm he has been studying for the last 30 secs is eaten by a greedy molly lol
