Freshwater Tank Sudden Issue

Continue with water changes. As long as the parameters--being GH, pH and temperature--of tap and tank water remain much the same, water changes cannot hurt even if daily. No need to thrash about, just stick the siphon in one corner and draw out the water, then replace it with conditioned fresh. Minimum of annoyance to fish.

Will do

Should I get some of the tetras again for company of the lone one? Or should i wait?

Or is that not a good idea as you said introducing fish into the loaches area might be bad

I'd want to be certain the nitrite issue is resolved, that should be within the week, then increase the groups accordingly.

Update to this thread.

The loan Tetra and Loach are still alive and doing well.

I continued the water changes and daily testing of water.

It seems the Nitrite has returned to 0ppm and Nitrates has slightly risen.

I think I am in the clear. I might head to the LFS tomorrow and pick up some more Penguin Tetras to give the loan guy some company. Please advise if this is the right time to do this

Thanks

With a few days of good test readings, OK. If you like the Penguin Tetra as a species, then get 8 or 9 of them minimum, a few more won't hurt. The lone fish in the tank should adjust to the new ones well enough, this is not a species known to have an hierarchy that might cause issues, assuming it has not been too long on its own.

The fish store I buy from finally had some Penguin Tetra stock last week weekend.

I wanted to buy 9 to add to my 1 left in the tank. I paid and left. Upon arriving home and looking in the bag there were 13 in there.. lol

Not a big deal. The more the better.. right.

Anyway added them to my tank and so far so good

Thanks for the info.
