Freshwater Master Test Kit -vs- Saltwater Master Test Kit

I was just wondering what the difference might have been between say the API freshwater/saltwater master test kits. I'm just wondering because I'm setting up my first marine tank and was wondering if I needed different tests. Thanks.

I'm just in the process of setting up a marine tank too Everyone I've spoken to has said the fresh water test kit can give false results in salt water so best to get a proper marine test kit

Some but not many of the tests are the same regardless of salt vs fresh. I would go with a new kit rather than hoping my results were reliable.

The tests are the same, but the results are different. My Hagen kit, for example, gives two charts for reading the results against - one for saltwater and one for freshwater.
