hey everyone, just a quick question. i was in my lfs the other day, and noticed they had some new fish. i asked the manager (the only person in there that i wil deal with) what they were, and he told me they were a freshwater dolphin. they sort of resembled on, but i didnt know if anyone else knew anything about them. any help would be apprecaited.

thanks

The fish with common names 'dolphin' and 'baby whale' are of course of not members of the whale family, (which are mammals) but are fish from the the same family as elephant nose fish known as moromyds
They're called 'dolphins' because of a passing resemblance to the shape of the aquatic mammals.
They're rather delicate & specialist too.

Unless it was a blue dolphin in which case its a Cichlid.
Cyrtocara moorii is its name - also known as Haplochromis Moorii

well this deffinitly wasnt a cichlid, so im going to guess it was the first thing. and i know it wasnt a mamal, but it did resemble a dolphin. it was really cool looking, but also expensive. so i was just woundering if anyone else had one, or know if they were sensitive fish, or what not.

Yes, from what I've read they are VERY sensitive and hard to keep.

Here's a 'Dolphin' Mormyrus tapirus

Here's what I have Campylomormyrus Cassaicus.... We call ours Mr Flipper :D

Also known as Double-trunk Elephantnose's, and apparently [possibly] Angolan Down-Pokers (see other recent threads...)

They're a beautiful fish and remind me of Dolphins  Looks fairly similar to Sirminion's Mormyrus Tapirus picture ^_^
