i have a red claw crab in a 20 gallon. i had two but one died. you could probably keep two in a ten gallon but they are very territorial and they are also very dirty. make sure you have a good filter system. substrate they prefer sand and they'll tear up most plants. i feed mine crab and lobster pellets and peas. take the skin off and drop em in they love them. they also prefer brackish water and need some sort of land. if you try to keep them totally under water they'll try to escape. they also need hiding places under and above water. they are very sensitive to ammonia in the water especially after they have molted. even with a good filtre i find myself changing the water almost twice a week. i think my crab is cool but he's high maintenance and i'm ready to try something else. if you have the time and patience theyre pretty cool pets.

there not as hard work as you are making out to be....i have three in a 20 gal tank....and they are find they havnt escaped the do climb up onto the drip tray but they have to return to the water anyway, and i only change the water once a week and there fine no problems.....the dont fight they just keep away from each other, and they eat anything that drops to the bottom like catfish pellets and bloodworm

thye'll eat a fish if they can catch it. they shouldnt be kept in a just an aquarium. they can survive but wont thrive as in their natural environment is mangrove swamps. they do best in a half filled tank with lots of hiding places and lots of wood like their natural environment. too many times people figure they sell these animals in the lfs in a totally submersed tank with other fish but if you really want your crab to thrive put him in conditions that are as close to his natural habitat as possible.

i have three in my tank trey don't bother the fish but will stand up for themselves. mine climb up the air stone pipes and in to the drip try aswell.

they crawl into the drip tray becsue they want to get out of the water. none of my crabs have ever tried to escape or crawled up anything other than the wood and rocks i provide for them becasue they have easy access out and back into the water and places above water to hide and climb on. they really are better off in tanks that have land access.
