Hi, for a while now I had my 30 gal tank cycling and ready for 1 or maybe 2 dwarf puffers, My gf really wants on and since i transfered my parrots to a new 55 gal I cleaned the 30 gal polished and started cycling.

Well problem is that I line in Brooklyn NY, i checked all local stores and noone has a freshwater dwarf puffer, anyone here knows a place? and or owns a place in the ny area, I'm willing to drive up to 200 miles as long as some one tells me that they hav them and holding on to them.

So anyone in 200 mile radious of Brooklyn has fresh water puffers??? dwarf ones that never go over 1.5 - 2 inches? please help!!!

yeah i use that site a lot for information aboutpotential new fish, but i work in a busy office in manhattan 5 sometimes 6 days a week, no chance i can hav the fish shipped there, plus taking the train back how would prolly kill the poor things

secondly i only want 2 puffers, they have a shipping on order 29.90 or higer, 1 puffer is7 bucks... i'm not going to order more fish just to flush them down the toilet and putting them into one of my other aquariums wouldn't be good cause they are at perfect capacity and all levels are stable like a rock! don't want to mess up the balace i have

With a 30 gallon you could get atleast 5 puffers. Then shipping wouldn't seem too bad I guess. They sell dwarf puffers down here for $2.69

Where i live in the UK peterborough, there is nowhere to buy them, so we need to mail order them of an online website but i know nothing about fish shops in NY. Sorry :dunno: .

Well, Dragon/Red-Bellied Puffers only grow to about 2.5 inches and aren't quite as rare as dwarf puffers. So if your willing to spare anoter 0.5 inches worth of space you could try and find some of those. I found that my local fish shop had got a lot of Dragon Puffers in the other day when i bought mine. And Dragon Puffers aren't very expensive at all, Their only, ussually, about £2.50-£4.00. I'm sorry, I don't know how much that is in US Dollars. Sorry if it doesn't help.

:)

I'm willing, it just that only puffer i could findand in only 2 store was the green spotted puffer which can grow up to 6 inches in aquarium enviroment and is brackish, I never did salt water before, and i can afford to kill fish cause of my not knowing, it just sits very bad on my concience.

But 2.5 inch is not bad. Not bad at all. I'll look for them. I'm desperate now and want to get on superpages search out every store in ny and nj and call them one by one, most stres here don't order fish per customer, which would solve my dillema.

In my area PetCo and PetSmart are selling puffers. I know that PetSmart has Dwarf Puffers, but I think that PetCO has a brackish puffer. Have you looked at those stores yet? And yes, they were only 2.49!

Thanks this place looks like they just might have it, Ima going to call them today and see, then i can drop by on sat or sunday :D

Gimli: dragon puffer is brackish, i never did salt water and have no expirience with it, whats different from fresh water (aside from the salt) and how easy would it be to convert my 30 gal of cycled fresh water to brackish water, i read up that its like 1 table spoon of sea salt per 5 gal of fresh water but i'm a total noob when it comes to this any quick pointers???
