I have a really sick molly.  She has a type of worm and has been fine lately, but now she is in pain. She swims slow and can no longer eat, so I want to put her down.
I can't find any clove oil.  The stores by my house don't have it.  Its ridiculous! So I might do the temperature shock method.

Has anyone had experience with this?  It is different from freezing the fish, the water will already be partially frozen. I will be cold enough that ice has formed on the top but the water hasn't frozen all of the way through.  Then you just drop the fish in.

I will not decapitate because the fish is too small and I wont use blunt force for the same reason.  The fish is too small for this and I don't have the guts.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

No freezing is very very painful for the fish. If you have no clove oil then the best way is to clobber it with something, make it quick.

Temperature shock or freezing are not methods recognised by vets as being humane

I'm afraid I agree with Daize; the only acceptable methods of euthanasia in fish are clove oil (or other anaesthetic) overdose or decapitation/pithing.

I have read up on the freezing. I won't be sticking it in the freezer that is what is said to be painful.
The website said it was like jumping into cold water, I have done that a lot because of river trips we have taken, and its a shock.  If the water is cold enough compared to the water the fish is currently in it can just die because its too much of a difference.

Like I said, my parents wont let me do that and I don't have the guts.

I'm well acquainted with the rationale behind the method but, in practice, it doesn't work that way.

If you can't use an acceptable method, then you should leave the fish on it's own, in the dark, to pass quietly, rather than use a method which is not guaranteed to work efficiently or painlessly.

it's difficult when having to take a life , especially using force , but if that equals less pain and quicker i'd have to take that option , instead of something thats slow and possibly painful.
