Fred's 33gallon Experience

It is obvious that you enjoy lush growth. You should be very pleased.

llj :good:

I got the Cardinals. 20 of them, however 4 have died. Lots would not show for the photo, sorry.

Comments welcome.

It really does look beautiful and the Cardinals stand out so well. Fantastic job and keep us updated with pics. ;)

More beautiful photos! :good:
When you popping round mine to help me get some decent shots?! ;)

Great photos fred. Makes me remeber i really should invest in a camera rather then using my mobile phone :)

Thank you both! With quite a decent camera and the right settings you can get so much!

I love the gigantic vallis growing across the surface, looks pleasant and natural.

unfortanate about the cardinals, any idea what could have caused their deaths?

The tank is certainly looking as good as ever!

Thank you Tom. I think so too.
Some of them appeared to be gasping at the surface, so I laid off the CO2 for a while and the gasping stopped. It then resumed with a only few of them. They started to die off. I would find them near the top with only a faint colour of red. The really bad ones I culled to stop any spreading of disease or infection. It seemed to work. I think I have 15 Cardinals now.

It quite often happens that when cardinals are aded that a couple die quite quickly.

I got 19 1 month ago and 1 died the next day. Then another got caught in some mesh. Down to 17 but they are all looking good.

Seems to be the same with Ottos.

Love the green in the tank. Pity about the background though. I much prefer plain (says the man trying to grow a moss wall. lol)

Thanks Andy. Atleast I'm not alone.
Concerning the background. I am considering a black background. In real life the rocky background doesn't look at all bad. I'll have a think.

Looking good still!

I love Cardinal Tetras but I have had similar experiences with them. Some batches seem to be bullet proof and others seem to die almost as soon as you put them in the tank. I had 12 in a tank that where doing great for weeks. Added another 12 and overnight lost almost all of them, there was no spikes in the water chemistry or any obvious reason for losing them. Have also lost some to CO2 in the past as well.
