Frag Swap... Possible Pin?

suppliers do it all the time, i get sent crabs and snails and stuff with this plastered all over the boxes! shouldnt be a problem at all they are only using standard couriers, ie parcel force, royal mail, citylink etc :)

fair enough, i'm sure i remember reading something about not marking up fish when you send them.... i could very well be wrong though!!

I bagg coral frags up after removing them from the tank place in a large tub of water with the same specs and slowley lower the temp. Then bagg up and send works fine. Couple of tips.

Bag corals with less air, stope the sloshing.

Doble or triple bag them to stop the corals splitting the bag (LPS SPS) also help to insulate the temp.

Send by overnight only!

Get the adderss right!

Following these rules will help to keep the frag in best possable nic! Worked for me so should work for you.

If I can make a suggestion. If possible, rubberband the frag to a piece of styrofoam, that will keep it under water no matter what :good:. Thats how all the US distributors are shipping now and my LFS says their shipping mortality rates are way lower this way

You can also buy heat packs, not sure how essential these are for corals, but my CUC were sent overnight by Royal Mail Special Delivery and they had these heat packs inside. Quite cheap apparentely.

ok so i think we'd need the following info

latin name
common name
picture
lighting requirements
any other special care requirements (link to a profile would be useful)
approximate size of frag
location of sender

anything else?

on the first post of the topic it should link to a guide for how to safely send corals..... possibly a link to somewhere you can buy heat packs.

Fragging and swapping corals is a great way to increase the species of your reef tank. It can save you a lot of money, especially if you can trust the person that you are working with. However, remember, even best friends can 'give you' an aiptaisia, bristle worm or someother hitchhiker.

Overnighting corals is probably the safest way to swap, but, can be expensive. Probably, an easier and cheaper way is to do the thermos method. Buy a cheap plastic thermos, put the frag in the thermos and use 2 day priority shipping. It's cheaper and, most likely, the coral will survive. You just have to work out a deal with your swappee...what your agreements will be.

BTW, I can swap sinularia flexibis with anyone..it would be an unmounted frag (an arm).
