Frag Prices

I have been looking at a lot of frags and getting a little carried away now with them! haha! I am just wondering how I figure out if the price of a frag is about the right price. I have seen a lot of price differences, for example, one guy has toadstool leather frags at £10-15 each whereas another guy who just emailed me said £5 for one and I can have 2 for £7.50!

He is a nice guy and has offered me 2 zoas one with 12 heads one with 13, red mushroom, small gsp, toadstool leather and free pompom xenia for £25 + postage which he thinks is somewhere like £10 ish

Is this a good price? I have like 4 different people I am messaging and getting proper confused!

I know I always ask you about value of stuff sorry! I dont wanna get ripped off haha!

It depends on size, colouration, etc but IN GENERAL, frags are a mighty rip off.

I use a loose example:

Toadstools: aprx £20-30 for a medium sized one. Toadstool can be fragged very very easily and normally fragged into 15 pieces if not more, so how do we then come up with £10.00 for a frag!! grrrr. Seriously i get very annoyed. I just buy colonies or small colonies now.

Im just worried that as my tank is new and Im crap at stuff if I bought a full on one that I would kill it and waste money! Also I wanted to get frags so I can see them grow, I don't feel so much pleasure in whacking a lovely coral in the tank and thats it done lol!

So would you say its worth what I will pay for it? lol

Well the point it it's worth about £2!! Lol but you won't get it for that. That deal you've been offered seems very good! Toadstools come in White, yellow, beige and brown. So just make sure it's what you want
And also long and short tencs!

Always get a photo though waz!

Pick an easy LPS or softy and you'll be fine with a large one - u won't kill it if it's a good one!!

And they still grow!! Lol

Yeah some frags are a right scam. Like lewis said get a small colony. I seen a toadstool frag for £22!! in a LFS. Went to the abyss last week and got a medium size green toadstool with 2 heads for £30. Apparently the green toadstools are rare aswell compared to most and it glows under blue light will get pic up when it comes out properly. Seems to be sulking at the moment

The problem for me is that I have 6foot to fill and buying full corals is gunna hurt! At least £5 on a frag that will grow on nicely is a little cheaper

oa local lfs sells zoa frags with around 8 heads for £3. small toadstools are £7. mushrooms £3 each. xenia is £7 but £13 in another. doesnt sound too bad its just the postage that lets it down. you asked on any forums for local fraggers?

Yeah on a couple others I have listed a wanted but theres like noone near me! Hence the postage I am looking to buy from other members but being careful who due to being taken for a mug haha! Wish I had a lfs with cheap frags nearby

what county you in? i work all over the country and try and visit as many of the shops as poss. luckily my area is way cheaper than most because theres 3 shops competing against each other

Somerset! My local is TAC. Good shop - has a great rep but known for the expensive corals haha! As soon as they have frags they go! haha!
