Hi all,

Whilst cleaning one of my FOUR tanks (mts!!), I noticed a flicker of movement, and sure enough, a TINY baby guppy, after a real hard look I could count 8 in total, up in the floating plants. I setup my spare (27 litre) hospital tank, placed in heater and mature filter (small sponge was sandwiched inside my big filter), and proceeded to catch them (in a jug), also I drained some water from the tank and placed it in the hospital tank. I managed to find TEN in the end, then a thought hit me!!, filter!, I took filter apart in bucket of tank water, and sure enough another baby swam out!! so 11 guppy fry saved, firth batch from these guppies, my first babies ever, cool eh!!

AND I have a shop that will take them as adults and offer credit :)

So, if you find fry in your tank, always check your filter :good:

just had to share!

Hi

One died :-( is that expected?

Rest are fine, I have just hatched Some brine shrimp for them.

They have definitely grown.

VERY hard to see or Count them.

bye

Some do die for various reasons. Sorry for your loss. :( Congrats on the rest of them though.

I can almost feel someones pain when they put up the face with the water swelling in the eyes, its just so realistic in a sense. Anyways, sorry that one died, but it happens, dont worry you will probably have more sooner or later.
One more time for good measure :-(

According to the box, feeding Baby Brine Shrimp makes them grow twice as fast. In my experience this is correct and could even be more than twice as fast compared to flake food. Also I think it makes them a lot healthier and increases the survival rate. Actually now that I feeding BBS, my whole tank is a lot healthier.

I give my 30 fry bloodworm; I have seen an increase in speed feeding with it. Sorry for the loss.
Well!!

Now I have 4 more, saw them in the guppy tank and got 4 out. Why so little though? I am assuming I have hungry guppies!!! I have tried the net but they NEVER drop in there. When I went to bed that night one of the females ws rubbing herself on some stones, I remember saying to my missus that she's prob about to drop, then in the morning there was fry in the tank, but I only got out 4 :(

I have floating plants (hogwort or something!!) and I have found them there both times!!! anything else I can try to save more? it's hard to see who will drop normally because ALL of my females are like marbles at the moment!! I am checking the tank about 10 times a day right now  and have jug etc on standby!! (I find it easier to catch them in a jug instead of netting such small fish).

anyway, the 4 new ones are doing fine and have mixed in nicely with the original 10, who by the way are JUST starting to get colour on thier tales, and are MUCH bigger, I am hatching BBS everyday for them and have also started a Microworm culture.

I have one female in particular who looks like a male she is so brightly marked with colour and patterns, really hoping to save her fry :) they will be outstanding.

cheers

Dave

WELL,

Looked in my tank last night and what do I see? More fry! Only a couple.

I got 3 out, then there was 2 more! Every time I got a couple , out popped a few more!

TWENTY SEVEN fry saved!!

So, the best way to save more fry! Be there at the right time! and thank god for my floating plants.

Could not tell who popped then though! Did not actually see any come out, they just kept appearing lol.

So , 41 fry growing up well right now! Wonder how much the LFS will give me in credit!

Bye for now!!

Dave
