Found An Awesome New Piece Of Wood

the wood works great in the tank.

I'm especially liking that it's not simply aesthetic, but that it also provides shelter for the Mbuna and is beneficial. That's always what I try to go for when adding decor.

Im joining Plates in the woods this weekend! Im not going to carry on paying £7/kg when i can do that, and find more selection in the woods!

Perhaps if a few people are going to do the same, we can colate some results, and get some answers on the earlier mentioned thoery of different pH from different wood?

I might have to find a bit of woodland to hunt around in, shame I don't live in Devon anymore, I am sure I could find some good bits around where I used to live

Its a great excuse to go to the woods where i played as a child :D

LP

Well, pines really soft and kind of....flakey.... :p if you open up a log of pine wood, you can dig your nails into it and feel its soft, same as if its green.... you dont want it either...

Lets say i was to get a bit of wood that wasnt ideal for a fish tank, what would be worst thing to possibly happen?
depends on why it's not ideal... if it is simply soft wood then it will rot and deteriorate and you';ll get bits of wood flaking off and ammonia spikes etc. If it's had pesticides etc on it then it could kill your fish (unlikely if it's from the middle of a wood, but if you use wood from your garden you have to be careful of this...)

Maybe i'm just too careful with this fish keeping, i'd imagin you'd notice it rotting well before you got ammonia spikes too.
Thanks for the answer, think i'll go to the woods too :good:

Lol, we'll all be exchanging good wood locations shortly

Plenty of Woods here in Hampshire!

i did wonder what i would say if someone asked why i had parked up at the side of the road and gone wandering into the woods.

i dont think they would believe i was looking for wood for my fish tank lol
