I talked to the woman at this fish store and she called her supplier for me to see if they had any butis butis or the morgunda (sp?). They have the Mor., but they have it listed under brackish. I'm pretty sure I can't just take one out of brackish and plunk it into freshwater, so if I decide to get one, how am I supposed to get it used to fresh?

To re aclimatise a fish to or from brackish water the best method to use is the drip method.

Place the bag containing the fish in a bucket or waterproof container and prop it up so it remains upright, then using a length of airline tube start a syphon from your tank to the bag with the fish in, tie a knot in the end of the tube that is in the bag and tighten it down until the water drips out at a rate of about 1 drop per second. Allow the water to drip into the bag for a couple of hours and then test the water in the bag, if it matches the water in your tank you can release the fish if not let the water continue to drip in and test it again in another hour.

I use this method everytime i buy a fish that needs to be aclimatised to water different to what it has been kept in and it has been 100% successful every time.

I too have used this method after reading a previous post from CFC about it.

In our case it was when we bought some expensive L-Numbers from an LFS a long way away where the water was a lot softer than here in suffolk.

Drip feeding the tank water in to the LFS water meant that the fish had no sudden changes and we didn't loose any of them.

Good advice CFC.

Yea!! I was so worried I wouldn't be able to do it but this sounds good. Hopefully I'll have a gudgeon swimming around in my tank soon. Thanks a lot!
