No not a box turtle I'm sorry. I've seen MANY MANY box turtles. This had bumps and a large tail, not a box turtle.The turtle in the photos is a box turtle, not a snapping turtle.
Also, if the story about the alligator snapping turtle took place in North Carolina, then you probably saw a common snapper, as gator snappers don’t occur there.
