Hi guys and gals.

Can you tell what type of shrimp this is? I brought two and forgot to ask what they are called!!!

Thanks in advanced!

It looks like a filter shrimp... Atyopsis sp.

They are normally called Rock or Bamboo Shrimp in LFS.

I bought mine as bamboo shrimp, they do get large but are harmless as they don't have claws but feathered hands to filter feed with.

Mind sit near the filter output and just love fast flowing sides of the tank.

Excellent thanks for that.

Mine are about 2.5 inches big at the moment, i was told they won't get much bigger than that?

It is a fan shrimp, do not know why, i was kinda scared of this kind shrimp. Last week, i saw one mixed with other tiny shrimp, that one is huge, about 12cm.

12 cm!! i hope they don't get that big!

Mine seem really friendly, god knows what they get up to at night though!

Will reach anywhere between 3" and 5".

Though round here the larger ones are more common, I usually see them at around 4".

I have one of these in my community set up and it is going well.

Its a 'bamboo' shrimp as is mostly known as in the UK.

It can change colour.. mine was blue when it arrived (I think it was stressed at the LFS) but turned a nice deep red in my tank :)

ooooo change colors? cool cos i just picked up 2 bamboo shrimpies

Excellent!!! I think i stole it from another website! Do you still have the suit!!!

Mine is now a lovely red colour with a black strip down its back. The second one seems to be a little more shy though as he is always hiding! I also have a colony of 12 Japaneon's and they all seem to get on ok!

Love the shells i keep finding in the tank!
