hey guy i have been asked my my nan to find a new home for her Iridescent shark/Pangasius as she bought them as a friend for her pleco for her 200L tank she was told they would ony get to 7"max and there like 8" now an all i found is these fish get MASSIVE as in 4ft+ any one want them £15 for both or swap for parrotfish or 2x bala shark or small oscar

The tank will not be big enough for an oscar - there is no such thing as a small oscar, only baby ones and they grow fast! Forget oscars unless you have 55 gallons at least, and that is just for one fish.

its too small for bala sharks too, unfortunately.

can i suggest you drop the price? you are not going to get anyone to pay for it. except, possibly, your local fish and chip shop. ( sold by rip off fish and chip shops as "cod")

you'll need to post this in the Classifieds section using the appropriate sales form otherwise the mods are likely to close this thread.

i cant post this in classifieds it wont let me post in any other forum for some reason.
we have tryed all ways to get rid not one of the petshops or fish store will take them even free i dont kno what there worth but my grandad whats them for the meat god nose why
so what do i do turn them in to fish & chips or wait till someone will take them thanks

I'm afraid you may have big problems finding anyone to take them; who's going to have a tank big enough for a 4 foot long fish?

Please don't take this personally; I know your nan was given the wrong info by the shop, and I'm sorry to use you as an example, but this is exactly why we're always, always telling people to do some research before they buy fish. 10 minutes on the internet and you wouldn't be in this situation in the first place :(

I have no idea what you're going to do with these fish, I really don't...I do know that both Pangasius and plecs are used as food fish in their native countries

the problem was she wanted some thing bigger that would be good for community tank and went to the shop not knowing what she was getting and asked the guy in the shop what could she keep with her fish she had already in the tank and the guy swore blind they would only get to 7" max but when i went in today to look at some guppies a lady was asking what she could keep with red bellys and hea told her they can live with tetras as long as in a large tank with plenty of food which me as a newbie to freshwater is not right surely

No, it's not right; I'm afraid all us more experienced fish keepers are well aware of what awful advice some shops give out; we see it here everyday :(

I have no idea what can be done about it and it doesn't help you or your nan with these fish. Have you tried putting them up (for free!) on Aquarist Classified; http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/? You never know...

they have been on since november and no intrest at all and they are only on for £5.00 or swop

Ah well, it was the only thing I could think to suggest :(

Pangasius have been sold in uk for a while as alternative to cod. Some have been honest and some have not as raptorrex pointed out at the start.
Try and advertise on as many sites as you can, you never know.
Good luck.

do you still have a receipt for the fish? By all rights if that was the information you were given then the fish shop has contraviened the sales of goods act. Basically they have not met this criteria

"Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale)."

I think you will agree that they are not as described (7" max) and not fit for purpose (too big for you Nan's tank).

take them back to the shop and demand a full refund. It will probably end in an argument but you are fully within your rights. Maybe even take a copy of the act to back yourself up.
