For Sale Starlight Bn L183

from what i had heard alot of people struggle to keep them alive in PH above 7 so well done for managing to breed them in that :good: And i heard that if they come into contact with normal BNs no matter what tank size there likely to batter them but obviously not.

I am actually quite tempted by some for my 150G Rio Tapajos biotope so ill get back to you if i can get the money :good:

Oh wow I didn't see these before! I retract my request for a long finned one (from the other thread) and request one of these please?!

Of course, we still have some. Did you want to collect or have delivery?

I already have 2 bn plecs and a clown plec in my 360L community tank, would I be pushing it to have a Starlight in there as well?
The star lights are likely to bully the normal BNs. They get bigger and are known for being more aggressive and theres the risk of crossbreeding so i wouldnt risk it. Thats whats putting me off getting some. If i didnt have BNs already i would have taken 5-6 in a flash.

You're right about that UNLESS you have a big tank with lots of bogwood. If the tank had lots of floor space and you broke it up with bogwood and caves so there were distinct territories then you could get away with it. We have had been able to make all manner of combinations work by a bit of careful planning and lots and lots of hidey places!

I`ve just been doing some reading on the character of the Starlight, it`s apparently very timid and placid and not known to be generally aggressive??

I have a 360L tank with quite a bit of bogwood, lots of planting and also 4 slate caves, would that be suitable for the starlight?

I have not seen them ever be aggressive to other fish, the parents are very timid (which is half the struggle when you want them to breed as wild-caught L183 stress out so easily). The babies currently live with 20 L066 of the same size and to be honest they're more likely to get shoved out by the King Tigers than the other way around.

Elisew - I would think 1 starlight would do very well in that setup. They will love the plants and bogwood and really thrive. Generally in our experience it takes 2 years or more for these guys to reach full size and even at full size I would imagine your tank is big enough as you don't have too many other plecos.

Kizno - we've heard that before about so many of our plecos, and to be honest we've tried all of them at higher pH and none so far have had any problems whatsoever. We've been warned off doing with the L46 though as there's some speculation about it causing snub-nosed offspring and don't wanna take risk
I think it all depends how you acclimatise them and the general make-up of the water. We always have heaps of bogwood so the water is tea-coloured with tannins and sometimes throw in some almond leaves too, it doesn't make a dent on the pH but brings the hardness of our tap water down from near 500 to around 200-300 which is certainly better for them.

Thanks for the reply B-)

Have you any idea how much the P&P would be to Poole?
Providing the P&P isn`t too much then I would love to have one of your Starlights please vickiandkev. If I didn`t already have the plecs I have then I probably would`ve had more :)

I`ve pm`d you regarding the delivery. ;)

I may add another starlight as someone who lives locally to me would like one so it`s easier for us to split the P&P.

Will give you a shout nearer the time though if that`s ok?

Where in North London are you?

Thanks

Would it be possible for my sister to collect? As I said in the other thread, she's at Imperial but is willing to collect on her way home at Christmas. Would either of you be willing to meet her at King's Cross? That way she could get straight on the train home and I can meet her at this end. If not then I'll have to search for some other local people to share postage!

Do you still have some left? Are you able to sex them? How much will postage to Scotland be? Would you also hold off on the postage until the new year as i wouldnt like for them to be stuck in the post with delays etc? I would be interested in 3.

Thanks

Craig

Just to let you know Craig I had the last 10 but I know that they are expecting more babies at moment so by new year there should be a new lot availible. They are not able to be sexed at moment when I got them so I assume you would be in the same position as me if the new batch do as well.

Kind Regards,

Adam
