Food, frozen or not?

I'm not positive as to the shelf life of freeze dried foods, but there no problem feeding a little of both. The more variety in his diet, the healthier you betta will be. They also tend to eat better when they get a varied diet.

I personally alternate between different types of frozen, freeze dried, and pellets.

Another vote for frozen Hikari. In fact just Hikari in general, my fish all seem to really go wild for their dry formulas as well, too bad it seems hard to find the entire line around here.

If you keep the frozen food frozen it should last a long time, i think Hikari has an expiration on it, and you should examine the packaging to make sure it hasn't thawed and refrozen, that would be nasty. They guarantee their food is parasite free, you don't get that guarantee with live food. Freeze dried is not as nutritious iirc but is convienient. Some fish won't accept freeze dried but will accept thawed frozen. If you use freeze dried it's a good idea to soak it a little so it rehydrates before you feed it.

Edit: like the previous poster, i feed my fish a variety of prepared foods, freeze dried foods, and the occasional frozen treat.

Hi Draven :)

I suggest that you buy the smallest package you can get and replace it when needed. It might cost a little more this way, but you will be feeding it to your fish while it is in the best condition possible.

When you remove it from the freezer to feed your fish, be sure to replace it immediately so that it does not begin to melt. The worms would deteriorate rapidly if this happened. :/
