Food For Tetras, Not Platies

I have a tank with Platies and Neon Tetras. Since the Platies have such a voracious appetite and the Tetras don't seem to want to come up to the top for food, I have a hard time getting food to them. Whatever floats down gets eaten by the Tetras, but I can't guarantee it will get down to them. Other than creating a area that only the Tetras can get into based on their smaller size, how else can I get food to them?

try spreading the food out across the width of your tank, this will give room fo rthe platies to feed and food to get down to the neons

u could try and put sincking pellets in with flakes, i put flakes in for my top feeders (mollies, platies and female fighter) and then i put a sinking tablet in at the same time for my bottom feeders (corys, worms and pleco) it works for mine

Yeah, I think I will wait another day to see if the fish get hungry enough to dart to the top. If not, some slow sinking food will be the way to go.

Try crumbling the food into small bits before spreading it over the surface. Even greedy platies can't be everywhere at once.

hmm... my neons used to leap out of the water for their food. How long have you had them? Perhaps they just haven't gotten used to the system yet.

Alternatively, sinking food is a good answer. If you melt a cube of frozen daphnia or bloodworms everybody is sure to get some.

My Neons are relatively new to the tank. A couple of them are getting more aggressive towards the food, so I think it's only a matter of time.

if you have babyneons there is powder foods.
grown neons eat small live foods or frozen foods like daphnia,bloodworm and mosquito larvea and lastly flake foods

I have the same exact problem with my neons and platys. The neons don't like to come up to the surface for some reason and only eat the food that falls. I solve this by crinkling up some of the food so that the platys tend to go for the bigger bites, and by putting some of the food by the filter so that the filter current carries it down. The platys eat the food on the surface and the neons swim under the filter current to get the food that goes down. It works fine, and I've had the fish together for six months with no problems. But my neons have never come to the surface every since I've gotten them. Don't know why.
