OK, this one comes because the more I read, the weirder it gets.
I tipically feed my guppys flake food. And I suppose flakes are the most common food for general fishkeeping. Also some freeze dried Red Grubs, which are more of a Betta food, but my critters aren't picky, and I like to vary the diet.
Then I started with the mosquito larvae, at almost all stages of growth. My fish are rabid about these. Then came mosquitoes, real, live, fat ones, electrically stunned. Ends up I'm feeding my own blood to my fish, ARGH!
Now I found out that the still water were I get my larvae, also contains vividly red worms, up to 1/4 inch in length. They too get devoured without hesitation.
Then I heard about Brine Shrimp, which need cultivation(?)
...and Pasta, yes, spaghetti, uncooked! I tried it with a small 2 inch section, and the whole gang went nuts with it, although I fail to see any nutrtious value in pasta
Then came the egg yoke, which I haven't tried, but is said to aid the coloring. I haven't the foggiest how to feed this one to them, or if it's really worth it.
Bits of lettuce, they told me. You have to give them vegetables! Carrots? Potatos? This is getting ridiculous...
Ana has talked about frozen peas, Precooked? Shelled? Purpose?
Chicken liver and cow heart are the latest suggestions
In short, although I'm sure flake foods provide most of what my fish need, I would like to hear the variations on this subject, and straighten out some of the info that goes around. Is it worth it to spend sinnful amounts of time hunting down bugs? and the "transfusions"?
I guess I'm just fullfilling my human profile as hunter/gatherer: I gather fish and hunt bugs!
Does this make me a fishaholic, or is this a deviation?
