Hello!

In my five gallon aquarium, I've got two adorable cory cats, an albino and a peppered. Currently, I feed them Hikari sinking wafers and sinking shrimp pellets. They love them, and the gravel is always clean by morning. Now, my problem: I've recently gotten at 26 gallon aquarium and begun to cycle it. After letting it sit for a bit and adding SafeStart, I added four GloFish and a small dwarf gourami. When chosing gravel, I opted for a larger, more stone-like substrate, not realizing that the cory's sinking wafers would be lost in the crevices between the rocks. Obviously, I can't just 'start over,' so I'm searching for larger wafers that wouldn't become lost before they could be eaten. Any suggestions would be *greatly* appreciated.

Because Corys are quite small, they wouldn't do as well on larger wafers. Have you thought of placing their food on a small plate or something like that?

Please at least seed your new filter from the old one, it would help ease the cycle.

Hi seizethecupcake :)

I would suggest removing the gravel and replacing it with sand (or very fine gravel) if you plan to keep corys in the tank. Any uneaten bits of food that make their way into the gravel are apt to be food for colonies of bacteria that could be harmful to them. It's easier, in the long run, to be safe than sorry.

I have to agree with the other members that have advised gravel for corys. I've had a trio of Corydoras adolfi in my tank for a year with fine gravel. I've just moved them to a tank with sand, and I luckily found some more when I was at my LFS recently so they're in a larger shoal and they're so much happier. I wouldn't keep them on gravel of any type any more tbh.

Swap the gravel for sand and get a couple more corys to keep yours company and, honestly, you'll be really glad you did. They'll be different fish :)

Could you not get some tablet food and stick it onto the glass of the tank?
