I need some good algea eaters for my community tank. Have some Angels, Gouramis, livebearers and cories in a 240L well planted tank. I am trying to decide which to choose out of the above.

Any help in deciding would be much appreciated.

flying foxes eat algae really good (that sounded cavemanish) i ment to say that the flying fox will eat almost any algae :p they are fun to watch too!

I thougth the bristlenose was the best for this. But I like the look and style of the Fox more. How many of the Flying Fox should I take? Do they like to be in pairs?

I have never owned a flying fox, I have a Redtail Black Shark and i was always worried that it might attack the fox, or visa versa as they are simular shapes.

If you want Algae cleaning i highly recommend Bristlenose Plecos. I have a 4 Inch BN Pleco in my tank. He is constantly eating Algae, the sides of my tank are spotless.

Some people think they are ugly, I think this makes their character.

Another point is they are pretty tough so you can mix em with Cichlids and the like. :D :D  :D :D

nope, you should only keep one specamine.
flying foxes are very territorial to fish that have the
same shape as them, so avoid any other shark shaped fish.

Make sure it's a SIAMESE flying fox not an ordinary flying fox. The former loves algae incl hair algea, the latter won't touch it.

Thanks for the replies.

I added one good looking Leopard Bristlenose and a Flying fox, I had an Albino Bristlenose before. I love the look and character of that leopard.

Also since posting this I have done a lot of studying. I have found out that the Siamese Algae Eater is the best at eating algae. Thought I saw it the other day but it was a False Algae Eater, they tried to sell it to me as a true one but the difference is obvious when you have studied this.

I have read that the Bristlenose can harm your plants, which I dont like at all. The plants must be protected. But is this correct that they harm the plants?

Now I am wandering what to do. I saw some Ottos the other day, I am thinking about getting 4 or 5 of those, from what I have read they do an excellent job at cleaning algae. But then I would definitely have to return the Flying Fox.

What do you think? What is the best combination for our tank?

Any comments much appreciate.

I have a bristle nose and he is very gentle with plants, even the new sprouts. Once in a while he uproots something, but it's just due to being big, not tearing anything up.
