So i'm going to setup a 55 gallon tank soon and I wanted to know which of these two seems best. Searching for the forums it seems that there are more problems with Fluval vs the Eheim. I'm thinking between the Fluval 304 and the Eheim Pro II 2028. Its not a huge gap in price but i'm not sure which would be the better bet in this situation.

Fluval:
Pro: Cheaper
Con: More Problems?

Eheim:
Pro: Reliable?
Con: Most expensive?

So i'm not sure if those pro's/con's are exactly right but feel free to revise them if needed. This is only what i'm gathered up so far given the limited amount of information I could find.

edit: Sorry I should have said the 2026 as the 2028 seems like overkill for a 55gal tank. Still it seems like the Eheim is the best to go with.

Eheims all the way.
think of it like this
buying a Eheim over a Fluval is like buying a BMW over a Skoda

flu who oh yeh now i remember thats a budget filter eheim are the best filters on the planet :D

My 30 Gallon that I have had for 10 months came with a Fluval 3+ internal, and I VERY quickly changed to an Eheim Ecco 2236. I have an overstocked Malawi set-up and it has been brilliant. Had a glitch yesterday, but it was a silly mistake on my part :*)

On that note, Eheim for me.

Another vote for the Eheim's I'm afraid.
Personally I find the build quality superior.

i think fluval when i bought a ehiem there was no end of problems with it.

if you are talking about the eheim classic models then i would say yes they are a dog to get closed and primed

but all of the eheim pros are top bits of kit

i run 2 x eheim pro3s and 2 x eheim 2252 inernals on my 1 tank and one of the 2252s has been running non stop for 10yrs+

Eheim - Classics can be a pain but the pro's are top notch.

I have a fluval as well though - but it's in the garage not being used

ehime all the way.
fluval are rubbish, whats the point in the new fx5 i will never know. that huge filter and they fill it with a massive sponge and a tiny compartment for proper media. fluval are a waste of time.

i have a 55 gallon set up with malawi's. i use a eheim 2028.overkill,but it has adjustable flow, and,if you ever upgrade your tank, you dont need to upgrade your filter.
