Practical fishkeeping is offering a free Fluval U2/U3 filter with its subscriptions. I like the magazine and the filter would be great since I'm not too happy with mine (too noisy). I have a 65 litre tank and I currently have the Aqua one 102F (I think). The Fulval filters I believe are U2 Internal filter and the U3 Internal Filter

Anyone has any experiences with these filters? Are they any good? Does this require the media to be updated often i.e. recurring costs? Currently I just have a foam filter with ceramic media in my filter which I haven't changed in a year and a half and the water stats are good but the filter is very noisy

Please do let me know, since if the filters are good I don't want to miss out on the offer.

Also, if I do take the U3 filter, can I adjust the flow rate lower so it won't affect the CO2 (as I plan to have plants in my tank soon). Please do let me know

IMO the fluval+ range is one of the best brands for internal filters, the fluval U2 range is the follow-on version and has literally only been on sale for about 6 weeks so it is unclear on their reputation, although having looked at these at work they do seem to be a quality filter and tbh are bound to be much better than any internal you can buy from aquaone.

Thanks for that, do you know if I can put in the U3 filter for my 65l tank and reduce the flow rate? I figure it will be better to have a more powerful filter just in case I want to upgrade later

Yes you should be able to,

quote taken from your link
The outlet may be configured to provide surface or bottom circulation or a difuse sprayed output pattern, where gentle circulation is required.

Thanks for the advice :good: I've placed an order for the magazine for the U3 filter. The minimum term is 12 months so should work out to £40 for the year. So a bargain IMO considering that the filter itself is at least £35 and good magazines to read :good:

I'll be back for more advice when I receive the filter to set it up correctly
