Would I be able to use the following parts to dismantle and upgrade my fluval roma 200 light unit? My main concern is that where the tube sizes are reference in cms the T8's are 91cm and the T5 are 89cm even though they are both referenced as 36" tubes.

My concern is that I have to order all this stuff and will be kind of stuck with if the measurements arent compatible.

Hello,

I have fitted T5's to my Roma hood and the difference in the bulb size is not realy apparent, so dont worry. If you need a link to a full guide I can PM you one because it will link to a different site and I cant post the link in this thread.

You can either keep the 2 x T8's along with the 2 x T5's or just have the 2 x T5's on there own?

Yes please send the link, I was going to just have the t5s as a starting point, since I didn't want to have to start heavily modifying the lid and to keep it compact and tidy. Longer term I wanted a custom tank so want to do the t5 upgrade on as low a budget as possible.

Thanks for the link, it's slightly different to what I was planning though, as I wanted to replace the factory fitted end caps with t5 ones and just have the single t5 each side, but I'm worried that is the bulb is slightly shorter the end caps don't make the allowance and it won't make a good connection, if any at all.

I guess what I really need is the exact measurements of something like a rio 180 of the edge to enge length of the end cap figments to see if its the same as th roma.

I have been considering buying a rio t5 lid and swapping all the internals over and reselling it as a used t8.

Not a problem, I have a link to a thread showing how to replace the whole T8 unit with T5 unit, but it is more complex to do.

Pm sent

Hi, would you mind sending me this link as well because this is something I am also considering doing with my Roma 200? I am assuming its running the T5 tube alongside the T8 using a reflector and a T5 HO starter unit? I would like to see it. I saw a thread on thus site once where someone did this but can't remember where it was.
