Hi Everyone,

Looking at purchasing either a Fluval Roma 125 or Juwel Trigon 190 next month when I move in to my new flat. I have a rough idea of stocking, and was wondering if the Roma 125 would be sufficient, or if the Trigon would be required (more budget than anything that the Roma would be preferable).

I was thinking something like:
7-8 Cardinal Tetras
7-8 Glowlight Tetras
5-6 Celestial Pearl Danios
5 Panda Corys

Centrepiece Fish of either/both:
1 Bolivian Ram
1 Honey Gourami

Would also be keen to hear if anyone has experience with the Rams or Gouramis alone as a centrepiece, or if pairs are more suitable.

Thanks for any help!

Bigger is always better, if you have space/budget for it. For the 125, I would personally cut out one or two of those shoaling fish schools.

I have a single male Bolivian ram living with some cherry barbs and green laser corys in a 110L tank. He does fine. You need lots of tank space and energy/space for faff if you want a pair. They're territorial and they want to choose their mates. If you bought two random fish of different sexes, they might not like each other, and if they are the same sex, they definitely won't. To pair them up, you need one male and five or six females. Once a pair forms, you need to remove the other rams from the tank. You can see why this is not appealing if space is limited. Or you just don't want to deal with a fishy soap opera.

Either tank, id drop the Celestial Pearl Danios and increase your cardinals, glowlights and Panda groups. CPD's are very shy and need bigger numbers to feel safe.

Single Bolivan's and Honey Gourami's will be fine alone. You could do a pair of the Honey's but stick with 1 Ram with what ever of the 2 tanks you go for. Like Gypsum said Bolivan's are territorial and can become quite aggressive if you had a pair protecting eggs.

Look at the dimensions of the tank, footprint will dictate your stock but also tank length as some larger/ more active species need this to improve their swim space. I suspect there isn't much between the two tanks as the trigon is a taller/ corner tank, so the rectangular 125 will be as good, maybe better.
