Hi Guys,

I have taken possession of a 2nd hand Fluval 160ltr tank. It came with a Fluval Internal Plus3 filter, however although I have been given carbon media there were no foam pads in there and I want to run it along my filter in my Fish R Fun F777 tank. I have some Polyfine fleece, can I cut this to size and place that inside Fluval filter to act as foam pads till I can get to shops please.?????

Don't see why not! When you say carbon media, do you mean the carbon filter pad/sponges? As you can't put loose carbon into a 3plus internal!

You can buy original Fluval replacement filters on Ebay but they are relatively expensive. Money saving tip =buy large pond size filter sponges and cut them to size to fit inside your internal filters. Works with most filters of any make and size. I've used cur down pond filter sponges in all of mine.

Fleece is fine to fill in gaps or as an initial barrier before sponges to remove large dirt particles but is meant to be disposable and doen't last long like sponges so you lose the good bacteris every time you throw fleece away and replace it.

Whatever you put in the Fluval, remember to add a bit of old filter sponge to seed it with good bacteia. Otherwise it will take ages to grow bacteria and remember to test the water often as a new filter is effectively a fish-in cycle.

When you say put a piece of old filter sponge in, What do you mean?
