Hi guys...

Starting my research nice and early  and wanted to know which filter out of the two would be best for:

A 2.8 metre long tank, 23cm wide and 45cm tall (It is going in a wall sort of thing - still configuring dimensions).

I have a external at the moment, but no way would it clean the whole tank :hyper: so which would be the best? I am thinking of pairing up two so one on one side, the other on the other.

Eheim looks really good, so does Fluval.

I saw with Eheim Professional 3 had two inlets and one outlet. Is that better??

Thanks! :)

I don't run an external (yet) but I expect that the majority will say Eheim. They appear to be a far higher quality product; although you'll pay for it!

Eheim all the way.

None of my Eheims have broken and they last for ages (another forum has a load of members still running them at over 10 years old). Both of my Fluvals leaked and dumped tank water on the carpet within 2 years of purchase.

I am by no means on my own with experiences of Fluval cannisters failing.

Eheim every time for me, but avoid the cheap ECCO range. Fluvals are better then they used to be, but frankly they do not have the same build quality and always seem to leak a little, not enough to be serious but enough to annoy.

Some of my Eheim's are 20 years old.

Fluvals are quality products now. The old 10x models were HORRIBLE. The newer 20x and 30x model are just as good as ehiem.

I don't use Ehiem, only Fluval.

How can you claim Fluval are just as good as Eheim?

You admit you don't use Eheim. I, and many others, used to use Fluval until they broke. To point out I used 204 and CFC had the 304. The new x05 series is just a reshaped x04.

Fluval will never be as good as Eheim without some major changes in the design and quality control departments of both factories.

The acid test is to talk to professionals and people who have been in the hobby for years. They will (pretty much to a man) say Eheim are the best.

lol, it looks as if eheim is the most reliable canister filter makers.. I thought so, but i guess you get what you pay for with Eheim unlike fluval :)

i use 2 x 4/5 year old 404 filters on my 156cm tank that holds 110 gallons and not had a problem, would certainly buy another fluval when one breaks to the point of being uneconomical to repair, i'll be honest and say i've bought all new pipes, fixings, and propellers for them but my LFS stocks a lot of the bigger spare and Hagan that makes the filteres are very good and quick to ship the other bits :)

i would definately suggest 2 filters instead of 1 large one if that was me tho :)

Definetely! I will probably get an Eheim professional 2026 or 2028 depending on which one suits me best, and i will run the one that i get with my aqua one CF700 (700lph)...

Would that be okay? I mean, if the tank is going to be 2.8 metres, and only 23cm wide, should i get the Eheim 2028 and extend the spraybar so the force of the water doesn't create a tsunami in the tank? as well as running my aqua one on the other side?

eheim all the way, every fluval i've had has deteriorated over a few years and needed parts replacing. all the eheims have lasted except for one where i dropped it and smashed the outside casing. can hardly blame them for that though!!

rena are also not bad filters, got one on oscars tank, it's a touch noisy but it's never broken or had a single problem.

is it true that the eheim pro II has a dual inlet? i was just reading, but didn't find the second inlet on the actual canister... or is that an optional extra?

nope. pro II's have one inlet and one outlet. I think they're a great filter.. I have one 2026 and one 2028 on my 135g and am very pleased with them!

no that is the Eheim pro 3 you are thinking of.

personally i'd go with Eheim but if budget was an issue then Tetratec are almost as good
as are Jebo.
