Ok here the story...

Ever since I moved into my new place my fish have been behaving a little different. One has gotten fin rot twice. Which is really weird because I have never had a problem.

I have an aqua clear and it has leaked badly twice since we have been here and I have no idea why. I also find that if the water is not at a perfect level with the aqua clear I dontget good water movement. Which from what I understand is important.

My bf has a fluval at his parents but when they had it set up they had fish dying etc etc. They also said they had to change something once a week? Is that true?

What should I go with??I would like advice on either please. thanks so much :rolleyes:

hello there!!!

i am currently using the fluval 05 range - i seem to have had no problems,

errr, i dont change something every week tho! - every month i simply clean aand replace the carbon thats it! :drool:

in my tanks i have had no fish dying??? :hyper:

what sixe tank do you have - the fluval
105 = 100l
205 = 200l
305= 300l
405 = 400l

i deffo recomend the fluval 05 range to you!!! :good:

Ya im not sure which one it is I'll have to check it out.

I just went to lfs and testing my water and everything was fine so its strange I can't figure out why my angel got tail rot.

One thing i definalty like about the fluval is that you get good water movement all the time. With the aquaclear it has to be at just the right level.

So do you just do weekly water changes then?

His tank there was about 40g I'm not sure what that is in litres :blush:

well i have never had a fluval..and all i hear about fluvals is that they break.. BUt love aqua clear.. I would get a aqua clear 70 for a 40g tank.. im using a aqua clear 70 right now in my 46 bow front... And i have freinds that use a aqua clear 70 in there 55g.. Do water 25% water changes every 2 weeks... And clean out filter every 2 weeks.. just clean dont replace anything unless needed..

I also share a love for aquaclear filters! I wouldnt necesarily blame the filter directly on the fish dying. Yes it could be an issue if the output of the filter isn't enough but I really doubt that would be an issue with an aquaclear. I've got an aquaclear 50 running on a 20 gallon and love it to death. You can't beat them for the price and I would take it over a whisper any day... In regards to the fluval it would depend on the model, some are better than others. The fin rot can have many reasons without the filter being primarily one of them. You can over filter a tank and still get diseases, it can come from a number of places.

As far as media changes go It's not a once every two week thing for me. I don't run carbon in any of my tanks unless I'm removing meds and It's not worth it to replace it every couple weeks when it's actually not helping my tank a whole lot. In my planted tank the carbon is actually hurting more than helping by removing my ferts.

Find a filter you like that will last and as long as your water parameters are good then you shouldnt have to worry about the filter being the cause of disease.
