I have a 450 litre juwel vision 450 tank. I am currently using an Eheim professional 2 and have been advised by quite a few people that it would be wise to get some better filration. I was thinking about getting an Eheim pro 3 but then a friend of mine recommended the Fluval fx5. The Eheim filters mainly focus on biological filration whilst the Fluval is a more mechanical filter. My tank stock list is on my profile. I would really appreciate as many opions as posible. At the moment I am tilting towards the Fluval because I would really like crytal clear water. Money isn't really a factor in deciding.

I thought the mech/bio bias depended on the media - or are you refering to the media supplied?

Eheim are regarded as better quality. I cannot comment on specific models though.

I have heard the FX5, and its noisy. The Eheim would be quieter. As GF says, its what you put in the filter that decides the way it filters. I would say go Eheim. The Eheim will also be cheaper to run (20w as opposed to the fluvals 48w), if that decides it for you.

sub.
