Hi,

For some time I have been thinking about setting up a little Nano marien tank, well I have just got my tank (Fluval Edge)and was wondering if you all would be able to give me some advice on where to start.

The tank is 23 liters, some how much live rock do you feel that I would need?

Is the standard lighting going to be ok for corals or will I need to up grade it?

What corals would do well in such a small tank?

I have read in a leading fish keeping mag that 2 Clowns would live happly in this tank, is this true?

Clowns need a much much bigger tank I'm afraid mate.

They need a minimium of 30 gallons, which is about 136 litres.

You could do a nice coral garden with some Zoas? And Xenia?

Hi all,

What fish would i be able to put into this tank?

very small gobies are about the extent of it but why bother with fish? a zoa garden with some shrimp would look great
LR wise about 3 kg would do it.

I know someone that kept a juvenile clown in one of these until he had to move it to his display.

Im with the rest, a little coral garden is about all these are good for in my opinion ;)

Ok,

So where do you think I should start? I have never kept anything salty and realy do not have a clue realy where to start.

How much live rock will I need?

Is the lighting ok or will it need replacing?

Hi buddy,

I used to have a fluval edge that I kept freshwater fish in. The difficulty you may have is finding small pieces of live rock to get through the hole in the top and also the lighting suplied in a Fluval Edge isnt bright enough to keep corals. If there was some way of getting much brighter bulbs, but also the design of them (being spotlights) just shines down in the middle so the edges of the tank are dimly lit.

You would be better off with a Nano or something so that you can keep corals and poss a clowny or two. Dont want to rain on your chips just trying to help. ;)

Why do you want the fluval edge?? Are you set on tht tank in particular or can we give some ideas of different tanks?

I must say that is a beautiful tank, really is... But it's tiny and unfort Marine doesn't do tiny!! Lol. Is you could go with a bigger tank than you'd have a lot of options.

I have a 40gal and I must say, man should I have bought sooo much bigger!! Lol. I don't know y I didn't, I had the money but didn't want a huge beast of a tank due to space! Boy now I think about it, I'd make space!!! 

I agree with Lewis, I had a fluval edge and chopped in in for a Fluval Roma 200.

You can get so much more for your money! Don't get it you will be disappointed when you walk round the LFS only to discover you can't have any of the fish you want.

The edge must retail at £90? For £200 you could get a Fluval Roma 125 which you would be able to stock a lot more in.

Apologies I see you have already got the tank!

You will end up getting a bigger tank in a few months like I did trust me.

ben if you want my advise, plant the edge and stick a betta in it :) the problem is that while small tanks (pico) are do-able they are a challenge for those of us who have some marine know how behind there belts. water stabilty, stocking, overheating, flow and lighting in such a small tank will be hard to control so IMHO scrap the pico idea for now and stick to your 200L it will be a much better start for you to learn on.

if you have your heart set on setting up the edge there is a few mods you can do to make it marine worthy but TBH i would stick to the bigger box :)
btw you will want 3kg of live rock if you go for the edge and 25-30kg in your 200lt
