Seen a Fluval Edge in the LFS today, lovely looking and with me looking for a small tank to hold a Betta I thought it would be ideal, spoke to the guy there who has been helpful before and he said he wouldn't recommend it because of the labyrinth situation. Would other's agree??

For those who haven't seen this tank its glass topped and sealed like a cube with just a small opening at the top, you lift the box from the top to access it.

I would be worried about the betta not being able to get to the top for air. Is it meant to be filled to the brim?

hi mate

i have a fluval edge with a betta and hes seems happy in it, although the tank is designed to be filled to the top bettas come to the surface to breath every now and again mine panicked a bit at first when he coulddnt find the small gap at the top of the tank so i would leave a few mm's from the top glass so it dosnt panic the betta and stress him out.

heres mine

Very nice. Are those plants silk or plastic? If they are plastic, what do you do to keep them from hurting the betta's fins? I had plactis and they shredded my bettas tail, so i had to leave him plantless for a little while. (not criticizing your setup, just curious)

they are plastic mate didnt wanna go with a planted tank because its my first attempt at fish keeping so went with plastic and i dont do anything, hes been in there for about 3-5 months now and hes fine no sign of tearing or the tail getting shorter nothing he seems fine but after you have said that i will keep a close eye on him now just incase :)

Hmm might go for the open top Chi one instead then, think the Edge looks great totally full though might lose something with a gap. Lovely tank all the same Matty.

well the original edge comes with halogen lighting Hagen are releasing(or have) 2 new Edges the 23L comes with LED lights and the other is a 46L tank a think (its around that mark) but to be honest with it full you get nothing but bubbles from the filter or the betta blowing them, they get caught under the glass which spoils the view from the top down but even leaving a few mm's from the top means no bubbles and it still gives the top down view which is nice a will get a picture in a minute and show you

That's really good that you haven't had any issues like I did. The good news is it was really easy to fix. A week of Bettafix treatment and his tail was good as new. I have silk plants now in my 10g, which I divided today to accomadate one of my other males. My swordtail were harassing him, so I took him out of the community, and I have low maintenance real plants in my 3g betta tanks lol. I have planted tanks in my community, and my betta that was in there incurred no injuries, so maybe my one was unlucky

its good to know his tail has healed up, mines in with 3 tetras and the first few days he was not happy they where in there with him and now he just dosnt care and the tetras dont bother him either so all seems good in mine :)

Its a very lovely tank. Its good that you haven't had any compatibility issues. My betta didn't actually bother any of the fish. I have a male swordtail though, that was demonstrating some dominance to the betta, and had my poor betta hiding in the stump :(

yeah my friend had a betta with a dalmation molly and it really was not happy about it i might end up wit compatibility issues shortly because im looking at buying a larger tank and re-homing my tropical to convert my edge to a salty tank, so i might end up with a few fish in the new tank he dosnt like but we will see :)

I have an Edge tank with a few guppies in it.
It's a great little tank for those people who haven't got room for a large tank.
It's a bit fiddly to clean though as you've only that small opening in the top,
but it's worth the effort.

My husband wants an edge or a chi, but we settle for a 75g monster that is in my basment family room lol

Lol this fish keeping is addictive isn't it?
I'm upgrading soon, but still love my Edge

Oh yeah, I have a 10g and a 40g that are fully established and running (40g livebearer community, 10g divided betta tank, two males) and I am in process or getting the 75g ready for a fishless cycle. Hope to have fully establish cichlid tank by xmas, 2 3g betta tanks in my room, a 65g hex, currently empty, 55g tank also empty.
