It's the only tank around that size I can find, as any larger and I'm not sure if my bookshelves will hold it. I have been previously interested in them, but went against them due to the lack of the lid, but I'm aware that Fluval now make a lid for them. I have to admit, it's not my ideal tank, but I'm not sure if I'm going to find much better.
Any opinions?

Just realised I meant to put this in the general discussion or betta section

the Chi Comes in 2 sizes correct? 19L and 25L? it should be fine only thing i would worry about is it been open top some people have said that there betta has jumped out the tank i would go for a tank that has some sort of lid if i was you

what about this tank?

Aquael Classic 40

same size tank as the larger model Chi, comes with everything you need to get started and its a bit cheaper aswell (from a quick look on google at prices.)

Yes, you are correct in the 19L and 25L. You can now buy lids for them, though, I know Seapets (the same site as the Aquael) sell them. The Aquael is cheaper, but in all fairness, it doesn't have the same look about it as the Chi. Obviously looks aren't everything, but I was hoping to try and find something a little more out of the ordinary, yet still a good quality aquarium

well what about the fluval edge? 23L is fine for a betta, i have my betta in a Edge at the moment its a nice little tank, they have released a new version which comes with LED lights instead of the original Halogens and they have released a larger model 43L a think it is also on the Seapets website might be a little pricey i dont know i havnt looked at prices for them :p but if you can get a lid/cover of some sort for the Chi it should be fine for the betta and maybe 1-2 more small fish

The problem with the Edge is that (assuming you fill it right up), there is very very little surface area at the top. This restricts the amount of oxygen available for the betta to breathe, and also restricts the amount of gas exchange (ie oxygenation).

i always leave a cm or 2 from the top on my edge and there is plenty of gas exchange even when its full up the filter does a pretty good job at it

It's alright, I've decided to get him an Aquastart 320 (28L). I compared the tanks when I went to my local PaH, and decided it was the Aquastart all the way ;) I hope to buy it within the next week or so - can't wait to get it all set up

I have just purchased a 5 gallon Fluval Chi for a betta, what else can i keep with him in there?

Shrimps would work well in there with him. The chi are gorgeous tanks.

The chi is a nice tank, but it's taller than it is long, so have some tall plants in it for your your Betta to rest on.
A few shrimp would be good in there

Plastic plants have a tendency to tear a Fighter's fins - if you deffo don't want live, then silk is a better option, but live plants is the best.

I'd try some hardy java fern and/or anubias to start with. I've heard the lights aren't the best in those tanks, though I've never had experience with them myself.
