Hi All

Was just wondering if any of you have had any problems with the impeller covers on the fluval 405 filters? Ive had 3 brake now for what seems to be no apparent reason. One of the little clips always seems to snap and brake. Is there anyway of getting the filter going without this cover? Have to wait 5 days for another replacement :(

Common problem with the filters really.... and no, you cant run the filter without the well cover as thats what holds the impeller shaft straight so that the impeller can spin

Its one of the problems thats been rectified in the new 406 range. :good:

Have to get myself an Fx5 or the new 406 range then i think, sick of this filter already. My 205 did run without a cover a few years back and that somehow held itself in place, so just wondered if i could do the same with this till the replacement comes.

Id get the fx5. I know they cost quite a bit more than the 406 but definitely worth it. Iv had the 405 406 and fx5. Changed to 2 tetratec ex1200's now though. Much better

Got the replacement impeller cover and then the intake decided to loose its suction to the glass and rise above the surface all through the night. Could this of really damaged the impeller? It seems to be still flowing well and perfectly fine. Why does it feel like your going to brake/snap the leaver when the connecting the output and input to the external? Does anyone else have this problem?

Getting really sick of these fluval filters, the only one that ive owned that's brilliant is the fx5. Need another i think.

I hate to tempt fate but I have been running a 305 for 4 years which gets a strip down clean of the mechanics every 2 weeks and has never given me a minutes worry!

I'm thinking a 405 is the same but just a bit bigger?

Apart from the odd smear of Vaseline around the seal and pipe connectors I've replaced nothing.

A great budget filter and would buy another if this one ever packed up :good:
