Fluval 405 Changed Media

HI All,
I only started my tank about 2 weeks ago.
I dont have any fish yet and the cycling appears to be going ok.
I have a 190 litre Juwel corner tank and have finally got all the sand wood and plants that i would like n it.
I removed the internal filter that came with the tank and installed an external fluval 405 canister.
This has been running in the tank since i got it but through all my water changes i noticed that the water was still a litle merky.
Tonight i stopped the filter and took the another look inside at the media that was suplied.
On one side of the filter there are 4 white sponges that do the mechanical filtering (i Think)
On the other side there are 4 baskets with 2 compartments per basket. Carbon in the botom 2 and bio balls in the top 2.
Tonight i removed the carbon from the filter and replaced it with the media that came with the original internal filter.
Bottom basket one blue sponge either side with a double layer of the white cleaning sponge on top.
basket above that green sponge on one side and bio chips on the other.
Top two baskes all bio balls.
Has anyone done this and if so what are your exeriances with it.
I have it running now for 1 hour and the water is looking better already.
If i have made a mistake please let me now so that i can undue my mistake.

Sounds good . When I setup my 305, I put some mature sponge from my internal filter in it too .

Cloudiness can be normal in new tanks, it should sort out as your filter bacteria colony matures.

Thats fine, you don't want carbon in the filter all the time anyway its a bit pointless lol. its only used to remove meds.

You can use really fine polyester pads to remove things like tiny particels of sand

Certainly does a better job of mechanical filtering, using floss in there as you now are, but makes an already high-maintenance (relative equivelant competing other filters) filter yet more high-maintenance

In the job that i work i can get the best filter media that money can buy.
I work for a pharmceutical company that process a few hundred thousand liters of water a day.
As i do maintenance on a daily basis of industrial pumps the one i will have to do at home will be like a holiday.
All the information here in this site is excellent and as far as my job goes i seem to be spending more time on this site in work then i do doing my job (hope big brother is not reading this)
I would also like to say thanks for all your knowledge it is extremely helpful. Some of you people are becoming a household name in my home.

He is useful and i would night mind having his experiance.
By the way thanks for yor replies also, Sorry i did not reply to you earlier but i am new to this and still getting the hang of things.
Also if anyone knows i have two 6inch airstones running with a tetratec APS 400 pump is this enough or is it overkill for the 190 litre corner tank.
