i have been offered a 6-month old Fluval 404 with all pipes and media for £70

On Charterhouse Aquatics i can get a new one with media delivered for £90

So i am going to offer him £55 for it

BUT, BUT, BUT i am forever reading on forums people slating Fluval externals, especially for leaking

Am i right to be cautious?

shall i just stick to Eheim or Tetratec?

Hi,

Tetratec filters are superb. Brilliant value for money, run silently and I have been running mine for just over a year now and not had any major problems with it. I have the Tetratec EX700. Would not swap it for anything else.

The UK by populus, don't care for external Fluvals. I'm guessing there is a UK Fluval factory that is screwing up because here, in the US, they work perfectly.

Its strange really:

Overseas, most people complain that their fluvals break down within the first year, or leak, or have some major breakdown and end up buying spare parts for it. Some actually commend fluval.

Here in Australia, most people actually reccomend fluval. No problems, no nothing, really.

I am so confused, cause i am thinking of getting eheim or fluval; and going by these problems, makes me even more confused (whether the problems will happen to me). So there must be a fault somewhere overseas... i don't know, what gives? I hope fluval will be ok, so i can get 2 405's... It wil save me a lot of money, compared to buying two Eheim Pro II 2028's!

I'm in the UK and have used various fluval internals and externals for a few years. Never had any problems with any of them (the externals aren't as queit as the enhiem I got though).

we have 2 304's and a 404... non of them are even close to being as quiet as our 2 tetratec's ;)

I think it's mainly this forum and a couple others rather than the UK that have problems with fluval filters ;) .

Though the early 04 models apparently did have some serious problems...

Most of our filters are Fluval (internal and external) and we've never had any problems with them. :good:
