Fluval 4

Bought a second hand Fluval 4 2 weeks ago, only problem is i cant find any replacement filter sponges for it in the lfs, anyone know where they sell em?

Also in the second pic, does anyone know what the plastic tube bit is for? it seperates into 4 peices

That really doesn't look like a fluval 4 to me! I use fluval plus filters in all my tanks and they completely different to that! Unless it's an older model?

I agree, looks different to fluval filter! I've got the fluval 4 and also 2 of it's smaller brothers, the 3 and the 2plus, none of which look like that!

Is it Fluval branded, or were you just told it was fluval when you bought it?

I have that model.It's ancient lol.Buy some big blocks of foam stuff and just cut it to fit.The plastic bits are for going through the center of the sponges and the water goes up this .The end of the plastic with the whole at the top connects to the powerhead and slots in.

Crikey that filter is a blast from the past, my parents used to have one of those when I lived at home (must be 8-10 yrs if not a couple more?). Best bet maybe to cut up cubes of sponge and put in around the central tube. I remember it begin a complete pain to get the central tube married up to the pump head and then click the pump head back on though (trapped bits of thumbskin on a regular basis).

I have the original fluval 3, which is exactly like that filter but a little smaller. Great filter, mines been running for 6 years so far with no problems, only changed the filter sponge once, though I never actually needed to.
You can get only get replacement sponges of ebay and a couple of online stores (though I doubt they actually have them in stock).

Can I ask why you want to replace the filter sponge though? You don't need to ever replace the sponge unless it is falling apart.
Or did it not actually come with any sponge?

It came with the sponge, and its in not bad condition, i was just wondering really because i hadnt seen a replacement in any lfs ive been into, thanks for the help
