I have ceramic noodles in the bottom tray, topped them with bits of sponge.
In the middle tray I have Eheim lav (small lava lumps) in a media bag, media bag with oyster shell (for buffering pH) and a pouch of purigen.
Top tray is packed with the Fluval biomax stuff. . . .

All good :good:

sounds good what size tank you using the filter with?

why are you changing all the media? If you have ceramic media in one of the trays, there will be substantial amounts of bacteria on it. If you change it all at the same time you run the risk of having ammonia or nitrite spikes. Best to stagger the change over a few weeks.

What is making you change the media anyway?

Make sure you include some filter floss/wool too. Can't recommend this stuff enough for crystal clear water!

Also, as ZZ said, why do you want to change the media? Unless it is falling to bits then there isn't really any need to change. Also, if you do, don't do it all at once.

+1 for polishing sponges. I moved the bio media from the top tray into the bottom and middle trays at the weekend then put 4 polishing sponges into the top compartments and my water is crystal now. :)

just needs replacing its haggard wasn't going 2 replace it all in one go but erm cheers anyway. deffo gunna go with the filter floos/wool.
