Can I used a fluval 304 to turnover the water in my tank ?

I am hoping to get the RO water salted up this weekend, get some crushed coral in as substrate and 5 kilos of live rock to get me started.

I dont however have my sump sorted yet and it looks like its on hold till next month.

Can I get by using this fluval 304 until then - should I remove the filter media and just use it as a pump ?

Im getting bored looking at an empty tank, Im sure water and a few rocks will be more interesting.

The fluval moves 1000 litre per hour. My tank holds 30 gallons - is it man enough just to get the tank cycling ?

You can use it and it will certainly cycle the tank, but I'm more wary about setting up a sump with water and livestock in the tank. Drilling becomes nearly impossible with livestock and you're then forced into a hang-on overflow. Just make sure that you're prepared for that eventuality. I setup my sump after water was in the tank and it was a really tough experience, one I would not want to go through again...

Im undecided wether to drill or use pipes hung over the top to syphon instead.

Ive got so many questions and thoughts, I dont wanna fill your forums with stupid newbie question topics.

Using it will be fine as marine tanks need a good heavy flow to keep healthy and circulated and yes remove all the media but i should think you can leave the carbon from what i remember when i was going to start marines :good:

Hmmmm, seems that idea might be out of the window - I just managed to crack one of the handles/clips on the side while cleaning it out.

Now to find spares for it

Oooooh, that was painless - got them on ebay :)

I run a 304 on our nano. removed the internals and use it for turnover...

you can then all resins etc to the baskets. ;)
